Experimentation = Reinvention
It's been more than a few minutes - actually closer to a few years - since I've been on a podcast and interviewed.
There was a time when I had my own podcast.
Before podcasting was cool back in 2010/2012, a business partner and I owned Online Marketing Pros. We offered in-person workshops for local businesses to learn online marketing tactics - bring your laptop, learn something you can put to use right now.
After a while I thought we should have a podcast on BlogTalkRadio. She was reluctant but was willing to try. We did it for a year then we disagreed on the direction our biz should go so we split up.
Over the years I tried hosting a few podcasts and livestreams on my own - Morning Mindset Cafe first on Blab (now shut down) then on Spreaker and YouTube, Grow Because You Know on YouTube and Spreaker. Then I got honest with myself - I don’t like to talk. I much prefer to write.
I’ve done many podcast and online radio interviews - and a couple on old school radio - to promote programs and offers and sometimes just to share my thoughts because the host said I was interesting so … okay … I’ll show up and answer your questions or have a conversation.
Until 2018. That’s when I decided to stop saying Yes to requests from most people. And I’ve turned down numerous requests. Except for Kat Sturtz of Rocking Your Path and and Robert Plank’s Marketer of the Day and … now … here comes my close friend Christy Smallwood who says "please would you let me interview you on my podcast?"
I can't say No to a friend. And Christy is special to me. I’ve watched her grow - personally and professionally - since 2012.
She started her own podcast a year or two ago. From the beginning she’s said she was going to get me on it. That day finally came.
She made it fun for me. So be warned there is laughter.
She got me to fangirl over Brian Kurtz and ...
laugh about our trip to Florida where the inside scenery was just as nice as the outside...
tell a few stories about how experimenting doesn’t mean to fly blind...
and got me to explain why I am not a coach…

Marketing Tip
Marketing isn’t advertising. There are a few definitions - from academic to the marketer who wants you to buy a business opportunity. The one I like is from Hubspot:
Marketing is the process of getting people interested in your company's product or service. This happens through
market research
analysis
and understanding your ideal customer's interests
Marketing pertains to all aspects of a business, including product development, distribution methods, sales, and advertising. Feb 25, 2021
So it’s more than posting content on a social media platform, it goes deeper than publishing a case study or white paper, and it doesn’t say one thing about Brand or Branding.
sidenote - branding is like your reputation…it’s what other people think of your business based on their experience with your business. You help them think something with consistent messaging attached to your business name and logo, consistent imagery that includes your logo and color palette, and the kind of response you give when they engage with your business.
Anyway, here’s my tip:
Understand your ideal buyer - your ideal customer. Understand them so well that you can create a message about your offer…in their language…and show them that your offer is the solution they want.

Pun of the Day
Did you know deer can jump higher than the average house? It’s because of their strong hind legs and the fact that the average house can’t jump.
