Action speaks louder than words.
It's a common saying. It's one I believe to be true.
Yet in the world of social media we're bombarded with the words of those who try to convince us that they
know more... do more... are more…
than those who are actually succeeding and moving forward.
These social media influencers and loudmouths are quick to tell you they're successful...
without showing results and outcomes that prove their success.
Do we know the difference?
Can we see past the words?
Can we see past the filtered images?
As one who prefers to be in the background and let my actions speak louder than my words - I struggle with self-promotion.
I try to show my successes by
sharing snippets of conversations with clients
sharing rave reviews received in email and on a marketplace
showing examples of how I work.
As a copywriter I do more for my clients than I do for myself.
You should see the endless list of "unfinished emails" I have in my Work In Progress folders!
In many areas I consider myself a success:
I am living the life I want.
I have a business that survived and grew through the recession.
I have friends and family who love me.
Sure - I want more. I aspire to be more. I'm motivated to learn and to grow and to share so others can succeed. It's why I'm still in business. It's why I continue to offer services and products.
It's also why I focus on taking action and not on just saying the words.

Email Copy Tip
Don't try to be clever with the subject or the body copy.
You’ll lose your reader.
If you find yourself totally in love with your words ... walk away. Set it aside for a day. Come back and read it with the eyes of your reader.
Ask yourself these 3 questions:
Will they understand the reference?
Will they get the meaning?
Will they get value from what I've written?
If you say No - or are hesitant about saying Yes - then change it.
Just because you're in love with your words does not mean your reader will be.

Social Selling Tip
You must know who you want to sell to.
Who is your Ideal Buyer?
Describe that person. Yes, that person. Not your entire ideal market. The one person who represents your Ideal Buyer.
Because when you can picture your Ideal Buyer in your mind…you can find them - fast - on social media.
Age - Gender - Likes - Dislikes - Hobbies - Skills - Job Title - Married - Single - Parent
The more you know the easier it will be to connect with them.
I can’t draw, but I can describe my Ideal Buyer to a sketch artist. Actually, I can show them a picture. You can, too.
The images are on social media profiles…stock photo sites…in your phone…in magazines…in family photo albums.
Yes, I’m serious! If you know your Ideal Buyer you will recognize them when you see their image.
My Tip: When you find the image…have a copy in front of you every time you engage on social media. This is the person you want to attract.
FYI exercise also works when writing sales copy.

Random Thought of the Day
Be wary of the one who says that today's knowledge is superior to that of yesterday or ancient times.
The intelligent person understands that today's knowledge is but one layer of knowledge that sits on top of wisdom and knowledge that has been experienced and written over the centuries.
No one person… no one body of scholars… no one group of people contain all the knowledge that has been experienced and learned and written from the beginning of time.
Systematic thinking about the future is absolutely essential for helping people make better choices today. It is also essential to look back to see forward - to look for patterns in the past and present so you can adjust and prepare for the future.
Without the past - without history - we aren’t doomed to repeat it… we are doomed to start from the beginning.
Which means we are doomed to repeat all the mistakes others have already made and sought to teach us so we could avoid them.

Pun of the Day
Writers are always cold because we’re surrounded by so many drafts.
